How to restore a hard disk image without losing licenses
ILS licenses are bound to certain attributes of the computer. Which attributes are used is configured with the license that insite issues - normally this will be a combination of IDs of certain hardware components and/or values of system settings of the computer (e.g. computer name, ID of network interface card, motherboard, harddisk, ...). When a hard disk image is copied from one computer to another computer, all licenses (that are normally bound to hardware IDs) will lose their validity. The conclusion is, you cannot distribute licenses by copying them via a hard disk image from one computer to another.
For this purpose, ILSDesktop and ILSCli offer the possibility to backup and restore license files.
Caution: The backup folder must not reside on the "internal" hard disk, since this will be overwritten when you restore an image. Keep your backups on a network drive or an external drive or USB stick.
